Flooring is a multi-thousand-dollar decision the customer stares at every single day. They're terrified of picking the wrong installer — crooked planks, gaps, dust everywhere, a crew that trashes the house. Your reviews are the proof that your crews are clean, your lines are straight, and the house looks better than when you arrived. Without them, you're just another quote.

Why reviews decide flooring jobs

68%

of consumers say they would only consider using a business with a 4-star rating or higher (BrightLocal, 2026). Flooring jobs are big-ticket and disruptive — customers lean on reviews harder here than in almost any other trade.

Flooring reviews have a secret weapon: before-and-after photos. Customers mention the transformation, and future customers can see it. Every review attached to a beautiful finished floor is an ad you didn't pay for.

Ask timing: final walkthrough, barefoot moment

The best time to ask is the final walkthrough — furniture is going back, the customer is walking the new floor barefoot, taking photos for the group chat. That glow is the peak. Don't ask at the estimate (nothing installed), and don't ask before the punch list is done — a single un-caulked transition strips away the goodwill.

Second-best timing: the final payment text. Flooring jobs close out with a balance payment — fire the review request with the receipt and it lands at peak satisfaction.

The in-person ask (word-for-word)

It came out great — enjoy walking on it! Quick favor: reviews are how most of our customers find us. Would you leave us a Google review? Takes about 30 seconds, and I'll text you the link right now.

Send the link on the spot. Flooring customers are happy but exhausted after a multi-day install — the ask that happens in person gets done; the one that arrives "later" gets buried.

The review-request text script (copy-paste ready)

Hi, this is Chris with Level Up Flooring — thanks for trusting us with your floors! Would you leave us a quick Google review? It takes about 30 seconds and it really helps our local business. Thanks so much! — Chris

Send this within one hour of the final walkthrough, automated off job completion. Only for happy customers — if there's a callback issue or a scratched baseboard to fix, handle it first, then ask.

The QR code on the invoice

Add a review QR code to your final invoice and your care-instructions sheet — the piece of paper the customer actually keeps ("how to care for your new floors"). The line: "Love your new floors? Scan to leave a review." Customers who pay the balance online days later still get the ask.

Handling the awkward ask

After a multi-day install, the relationship is warm — the ask is easy if you frame it right. Two rules:

  • Only ask happy customers. If the punch list isn't fully done, the ask waits. A premature ask invites a review about the thing you haven't fixed yet.
  • Ask for the review, never coach the rating. "Would you leave us a review?" is right. "Give us 5 stars" is against Google's policy.

Never offer incentives for reviews — no discounts on future rooms, no gift cards, nothing. Google's policy prohibits review incentives, and violations can get reviews removed or your profile penalized. Honest reviews only.

Respond to every review (yes, every one)

Thanks so much! We're so glad you're loving the new floors — that new floor really transformed the space. Enjoy it, and call us when you're ready for the next room. — Chris, Level Up Flooring

Mention the material and the room — future customers search reviews for their exact project. For negative reviews: respond within 24 hours, stay calm, take it offline. "We're sorry this wasn't right — call me directly and we will come fix it." Flooring complaints are visible; your response is the proof you're stand-up.

Ask customers to include a photo. Google reviews with photos get far more attention than text-only ones, and flooring is the most photogenic trade there is — a new floor photographs beautifully with zero effort from the customer. When you ask in person, add one line: "If you snap a photo of the finished floor and attach it to the review, it helps more than you know." One photo review does the work of five text reviews, because future customers can see your actual work instead of reading about it.
